Since Christmas is just around the corner, I've been trialling some festive looks. I don't even have many plans for Christmas, but it's still a fun excuse to play with makeup. I'm not sure if I'll get around to posting multiple looks, but the first in this tentative series is a really brightening look, focusing on glowing skin and a red lip.
For my base I prepped my skin with the Marc Jacobs Under(cover) Perfecting Coconut Face Primer. I just love this stuff, and it really helps foundation apply more smoothly and last longer. Next I applied the Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation with a damp Beautyblender - it's seriously glowy skin in a bottle. I had forgotten how beautiful it was.
I wanted to make sure I really brightened my undereyes, as these dark winter morning and nights have left me feeling super sleepy and looking a little zombie-like. I went in with the Onomie Bright Concealing Elixir* under my eyes where the darkness is most prominent, and I also used their ACE Illuminating Eye Treatment* on the tops of my cheekbones and up to my browbone in a "C" shape. I have a review on both of these products here. I tapped everything in with the Beautyblender, allowing them to mix a little. My undereyes were left looking super bright, and it looked like I was all caught up on sleep! Keep an eye out on my Instagram on Friday, 12/16 as well, because I'm teaming up with Onomie to give away one of their holiday sets containing both of these products.
I kept my eyes simple, only applying a light wash of the Dior Fusion Mono Eyeshadow in Chimere (review) for a bit of a brightening champagne shade, tightlined with a deep brown eyeliner, and coated my lashes with a couple coats of the Max Factor Masterpiece Max Mascara.* Brows were finished with a few swipes of Glossier Boy Brow and filling in more sparse areas with the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz.
I knew I'd be doing a red lip, so I wanted to add a bit of dimension to my skin to avoid looking washed out. I decided to use the Burberry Blush in Earthy because the shade is the perfect neutral - it defines the cheeks without looking too rosy, so I knew it wouldn't clash with the lip. I also applied a boatload of the Marc Jacobs Glow Stick Glistening Illuminator* all over my face - cheekbones, brow bones, bridge of my nose, tip of my nose, and Cupid's bow. It gave such a phenomenal glow that's pretty much secured its place as one of my favorite highlighters of all time.
To finish the look, I used the NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Majella to line and fill in my lips. This is such a pretty red - not too cool and not too warm, and it doesn't pull orange on me, either. It just makes me feel so Christmas-y and festive. It does transfer a bit, since it's a satin and not a matte, but it leaves a really lovely stain on the lips over time. The Satin Lip Pencils are just my favorite lip products from NARS.
