Later this week you’ll see I’ve been putting much more effort into my daily makeup recently, and part of that has been wearing something more than lip balm on my lips. Over the past few weeks I’ve come up with a few everyday combinations of liners + lipsticks that go perfectly together.
THE ULTIMATE NUDE | When I want a more nude lip, I look no further than a layer of the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk all over my lips, followed by the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine Hydrating Sheer Lipshine in Boy (54). This pair makes just about the same shade as my lips but knocks out some of the pink color. A lot of people say Pillow Talk shows up pink on them, but because I have so much pink in my skin already, it looks almost peachy on me. And the Chanel lipstick is one of those perfect “lip enhancing” colors and is quite similar to MAC’s Patisserie.
THE AFFORDABLE MAUVE | If you read my Dusty Mauve Edit, you’ll know I have an endless supply of mauve lip products from all price ranges. My favorite lately has been using a couple more affordable products - the NYX Slim Lip Liner Pencil in Mauve followed by the Sephora Collection Rouge Cream Lipstick in Mmmm… (weird name I know). I love the NYX Lip Liners, and they do a lot of dupes of MAC lip pencils - Mauve actually looks a little similar to Soar. The formula is quite comparable as well. And I had never tried the Sephora lipsticks before, but I’m really impressed. They feel super comfortable without sliding all over the place. And they smell like Grape Bubble Tape.
THE TRUE BROWN | This season I’ve fallen in love with brown tones on the lips (see my Brown Lip Edit for evidence). I’ve got warm pink-browns to cooler “greige” colors and I just can’t get enough. I’ve really been loving the pairing of the MAC Lip Pencil in Whirl all over the lips with a dabbed-on layer of the Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Lip Colour in Milky Way over the top. Milky Way is one of those more greige-y colors, so I really like it dabbed on top of Whirl because it takes the pinky-brown color of it and tones it down - since my skin is so cool-toned, I think cooling Whirl down a bit is really flattering.
THE MAC MLBB | Like most lip product addicts, I have a bit of a thing for MAC. Their lip products deserve all the hype they get, in my opinion. When I want to add a little something on the lips without it looking too overdone I like pairing a bit of the MAC Lip Pencil in Edge to Edge with the MAC Lipstick in Syrup - they really do match quite perfectly and have that subtle cool-toned (or “cloudy” as MAC puts it) pink down. This pair is perfect for adding a pop of pink to the lips without actually wearing any bold colors.
